Moto Rokr EM30 & Sony Ericcson W302 compared by Smape

Smape has compared the Motorola Rokr EM30 & Sony Ericcson W302 in a detailed article.

An important point is that Motorola and Sony Ericsson took different paths on their chase of Nokia 5310. W890 was simplified to a huge extent, dropping its A200 platform in favor of a Sagem ODM-developed platform which is now used in W302. The materials, assembly, audio and misc things – everything was curbed and is distinctly different from the senior model. The continuity is just nominal, which is a very ambiguous step, given that the predecessor model was far from perfection itself, though much better than W880, which didn't even have a FM tuner.

The Americans took a smarter step by keeping EM30 pretty close to E8, which actually is little than a new version of the older handset, coming in different colors. The functional simplifications (memory, navigation wheel) help to drop down the price, so by the beginning of the sales the solutions will sell for roughly the same money. It's extremely important that Motorola preserved the fashion impact and even kept the same materials. This makes the solution the best offer in its class in that aspect.

Moto Rokr EM30 reviewed by Smape

Smape has reviewed the Motorola Rokr EM30 in a detailed review.

RORK EM30 is quite a different story. That’s the top model in the line, but its actual positioning is that of a mid-end phone. In fact, it’s a simplified version of Motorola ROKR E8 with almost no differences between the two other than a few costly features taken out from the former. These points of difference are to be thoroughly described in the later sections of the article, and now let’s have a general view on the phone’s market positioning.

The luring combination of a relatively low price ($250 in September) and the expensive materials and design which were inherited from the E8 model, an unmatched audio quality, touch buttons serving as player controls – here are the principal selling points of this handset. The E8 model remains a rather expensive offer, that’s a fashion phone which will never be subject to serious price reduction, so the price gap between it and EM30 is going to always keep above $100. On the other hand, by paying an extra $100 the user gets a lot of extra memory, a FastScroll wheel and a more pronounced fashion impact. At that point, the principal differences between the two models come to an end.

Nokia N85 & Nokia N96 comparison by Smape

Smape has compared N85 & N96 in detail.

The model index of N96 suggests its official status of a continuation of N95, the former having been announced back in spring at the mobile congress in Spain. Indeed, the device goes on with the evolution of the once successful idea by adding a digital TV unit, even more memory and such like extras. Amazingly, Nokia themselves officially pronounced N85 to be their vision of what will come next after N95 to pick up the torch. The former was presented in Moscow a few days ago, - being the most compact of all the double sliders known to exist on the market up to date. In this article we are going to track the development of the legendary cameraphone and air our recommendations on picking a replacement for N95.

Nokia N79 & Nokia N85 First Impressions by Eldar Murtazin of Mobile Review

Eldar has published his first thoughts on both N85 & N79, which were officially launched by Nokia yesterday.

One of the N85's highlights is its 2.6 inch OLED-display capable of 16 million colors. While these bare numbers might not tell you much, the picture quality will for sure - the N85 is an enormous improvement over the Nokia N95 with its brighter and juicier colors along with very readable fonts. All in all, it's one of the best units we have seen yet. To tease you a little, let me say this - I managed to have a sneak peek at the next generation of screens some time ago (boasting the VGA resolution) and found that they were quite in line with the screen utilized in the Nokia N85.

To get a better idea of what the Nokia N79 is, let's start with a simple question - what phone the N79 aims to replace. While its closest sibling in Nokia's portfolio is the N78, it doesn't quite qualify as a full-fledged replacement, since they target different demographics. In fact, this phone comes in to take the place of the most popular Nseries smartphone to date - the N73. Given the way the N73 was positioned back in the day - decent camera for very little money - the N79 seems to fall under exactly the same category. It brings together a 5 Mpix camera module with a lens cover and the rich feature pack of N78.

HTC Dream pics leak, hoping for sweet dreams

Recently FCC had approved HTC Dream and we had reported about it. Now a full sketch of the device has been leaked. The HTC Dream can be seen supporting a 5-row Qwerty Keypad with a separate row for number keys. It also has a large touchscreen. One noticeable thing to note is the tilt at the bottom of the device like the Motorola Z8/Z10.

Also based on the sketches a few pics have also leaked which resemble the HTC Dream a lot. The pics are blurry but that is common for spy pics. Also the pics show a jog ball which looks like the Track Ball in Blackberrys. The Dream is slated to be launched by T-Mobile in September this year.

Nokia N79 & Nokia N85 First Impressions by Smape

Smape has published a first impressions article on N79 & N85.

N85 and N79 turned out to have a rather ambiguous nature, making it hard to tell for sure which niche either of the two was meant to occupy. The junior N79 model can be mistakenly attributed with being a replacement or a sequel of N78. It's simply another minor portfolio expansion with a handful of parameters tweaked to differ from the original handset. N78 isn't phasing out yet, the handset is to stay as one of the most affordable and balanced business smartphones (sporting also some fashion phone traits, let alone the rich functionality) for quite a long while from now on.

Apple 3G iPhone to land in India on 22 August for $700

Apple iPhone is finally coming to India. Airtel & Vodafone will be bringing the handset to India just before the festival season. But better start cutting down on other expenditures if you plan to buy it. The 3G iPhone will cost approximately $700 for the 8GB iPhone 3G or about $825 for the 16GB iPhone 3G.

This is the full price of iPhone as contracts are still not popular in India, so you'll get the unlocked version. Without any carrier subsidies, Vodafone and Airtel will be requiring their customers to pony up Rs 31,000 and Rs 36,100, respectively, for the 8GB and 16GB iPhone 3G handset. That's still a very high price considering there are better other alternatives like N82 & N95.

India still lacks a 3G Network so you'll be left with just EDGE speeds at best with your new 3G iPhone if you buy one. Even though quite a few Handsets exist in India which are 3G capable, they can't be used in 3G Mode. Hope to see it changed when Indian Networks launch their 3G Network. The iPhone 3G will launch in India on August 22 through Vodafone.
