Apple 3G iPhone announced

Steve Jobs today announced the 3G iPhone after days & days of media frenzy, rumors & leaks. The 3G iPhone has 3G (obviously) & GPS in it. Even with the 3G, the battery times reported are really amazing for the Phone. The 3G iPhone is rated at 300 hours of standby time. 2G talk time is up to 10 hours (it's 8 hours with the first gen iPhone), while 3G talk time is 5 hours. It will be able to allow 5-6 hours of 3G browsing, 7 hours of video playback and 24 hours of audio playback. mrgreen

The form-factor is mostly the same. Same 3.5-inch multi-touch screen, same button-less face, minimalist design - but with a few changes. There are going to be some incredible applications and games for the iPhone available through the AppStore - and it looks like free or $9.99 is going to be the pricing structure. At least we won't have to worry about which application is going to be cheaper than another.

And, the iPhone 3G will launch in 20 countries worldwide on July 11 for $199. Talk about affordable - there won't be any of those "it's too expensive" arguments against the iPhone 3G floating around that were seen last year with the original iPhone's launch. tepuktangan

Let's recap the specs a bit.
It's got Quadband support, Triband 3G support, Wifi, GPS, Bluetooth 2.0, 8GB & 16GB Flash Storage, normal headphone jack, same 3.5 inch 16 million color screen, same 2mp camera.

The new features of the 3G iPhone (apart from 3G & GPS) are :

Contact Search

Bulk Deleting

Support for Various Languages

There will be a Black & a special White Version

Samsung i900 live pics leaked

Well I reported a little while ago about Samsung prepping an iPhone competitor with better specs than iPhone, now I've got hold of some live pics of the Samsung SGH-i900.

Let me recap the specs of i900, it has got a full-body, 3.5-inch (240×400) touchscreen with some sort of fingerprint-scanner/touch-sensitive navigation pad at the bottom of the display and Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, HSDPA, WiFi, FM radio, 5 megapixel camera, TV-out, 16GB of onboard storage, microSDHC card slot, and Bluetooth 2.2 with A2DP along with huge 1500 mAH battery - all packed into a 112×56×13mm package.

Here are a few comparative shots with the iPhone

iPhone details & pics leaked

Apple's next-generation iPhone will run on an as yet unreleased version of the iPhone firmware, and it seems that said firmware has already been leaked. The code apparently confirms that tri-band (850/1900/2100Mhz) HSDPA is in the cards for the iPhone 2.

There are numerous mentions to UMTS/HSDPA hardware running on all three frequency bands, and the code confirms that the Infineon-sourced S-GOLD3 3G chip will be handling the bulk of the data-legwork.

There's A-GPS also for the upcoming iPhone 3G. The firmware code shows that software for determining location based on network data and satellite signals is embedded within and should make for some snappy GPS location-acquisition times. biggrin

iPhone is apparently glossy black, serves up location data with haste (it purportedly determines position through WiFi, cell tower triangulation, and A-GPS - in that order) and has a 3-meter accuracy, will be about 20% smaller (thinner, in other words), and gets an average throughput of 140Kbps.

From the looks of the leaked pics, iPhone hopefuls have to look forward to their 3G iPhone rocking video chat, and it'll be available in a nice, bright shade of Red. The iPhone 3G looks thicker than the current iPhone, which is in line with the "thicker" 3G iPhone rumors. But, the tapered edges are way thinner than the current iPhone, which is in line with the "thinner" 3G iPhone rumors. cool

Fujifilm Launches F200fd Ultra Compact Camera

Fujifilm has announced the Finepix Z200fd, a new addition to its range of ultra compact digital cameras. The Z200fd features 10 megapixels resolution and a 5x (33-165mm equiv.) zoom lens. It also brings us exciting new features such as the 'couple' and 'group' self timer modes, all wrapped up in an attractive metal body.

Despite being only 19.8mm thick the FinePix Z200fd is packed with state-of-the-art technology including a 5x Fujinon optical zoom lens, Fujifilm’s acclaimed Face Detection technology, intelligent red-eye removal and Dual Image Stabilisation, as well as two brand new self-timer modes: Couple Timer and Group Timer.

The FinePix Z200fd features two brand new self-timer modes: Couple Timer and Group Timer. Working in combination with Face Detection technology, the self-timer automatically sets off after the camera has detected faces in a frame. The camera won’t take the photo if one of the faces is out the frame, so there’s no need to worry about someone being missed out of the shot!

The Couple Timer mode cleverly detects two faces in a frame and will automatically release the shutter button as the two faces come closer together. The Couple Timer mode has three settings so users can set the timer to detect faces at various distances, whether they are standing side by side, or cheek-to-cheek.

Perfect for bloggers like me mrgreen the FinePix Z200fd features a Blog mode, which resizes images for easy upload to social networking sites such as FacebookTM, and an Auction mode, which combines up to four photos in one frame – ideal for eBayTM users.

And did I say the Camera is a looker biggrin
