Get push feature for your gmail in iphone

Hi Friends,

As you all must be aware that the latest firmware of iPhone has introduced the feature of push mail. But sadly for Gmail its not fully push, its a fetch system, which checks for your mail ever 15 mins or 30 mins or more.

The real push is only for Apple's paid service mobile me, MS Exchange and yahoo mail.

So I came across an idea to get Gmail as push in iPhone via yahoo. This may be useful to many Gmail users.

Its a very simple process.

Step 1:
Create a new ymail account at yahoo (If you have a yahoo account then u can use that & combine the yahoo & Gmail into 1)

Step 2:
Login in your Gmail & go to settings....and then select the option of filters....and then finally click on "Create New Filter".
Then enter your Gmail email address in the to section like shown in the image below.

Login to Gmail & enter your email ID
Click on Image to see Full Size Image

Click on Next Step

Select the option of "Mark as read" to avoid confusion in your Gmail account. (If you don't select that, then all the mails forwarded to ymail> will be shown as unread in Gmail)

Then enter your "ymail" email address in forward it to column as shown in the picture below.

Enter your ymail id in forwarding column
Click on Image to see Full Size Image

Click on Create Filter to finish the process.

Now all the mails sent to your Gmail will be forwarded to ymail automatically.

Step 3:
In your iPhone, delete or deactivate your Gmail mail setting. (This is done to avoid duplication of emails in your phone)

Step 4:
Create a new mail account of yahoo (your new ymail address which you just made).
And in settings of iPhone don't forget to keep the push on for yahoo.

That's it guys & gals..........you will now get all your Gmail mails pushed immediately via free yahoo.............!! Isn't that awesome? wink

The only minus point in this system is, you cant edit the outgoing smtp & use the Gmail for sending mails. So when you send email from your iPhone, it will go via yahoo. But you can always add a signature in settings and mention your Gmail address.

I hope this would be useful to the many iPhone + Gmail users who wanted free push mail. And one more important thing........with the new iPhone firmware 2.1, apple seems to have messed up the push feature altogether....and when the phone is idle, it does not work. It works only when the phone is in use. Even the fetch of Gmail is not working in idle mode. But apple has recognised this bug & is working upon it and will correct it soon in a future firmware.

However the users with firmware 2.0, 2.0.1, 2.0.2 should be able to get push emails even in idle mode.

Unlocked 3G iPhone on sale in Hong Kong

Unlocked 3G iPhones have started to sell in Hong Kong. This is the first time that unlocked 3G iPhones are being sold anywhere. The unlocked phones can work on any network in the world and cost HK$ 5,400 (£376) and HK$ 6,200 (£432) respectively for the 8GB & 16GB versions. When converted to US Dollars this turns out to be around $ 700 US for 8GB version & around $ 800 US for the 16GB versions. In euros this turns out to be around € 475 & € 550 respectively.

The Apple HK website mentions to interested customers -

iPhone 3G purchased at the Apple Online Store can be activated with any wireless carrier. Simply insert the SIM from your current phone into iPhone 3G and connect to iTunes 8 to complete activation.

The thing to note here is that when converted to Indian Rupees, the unlocked 3G iPhone will cost Rs.32000 & Rs. 37000 for the 8GB & the 16GB versions respectively, which is not much more than the Rs.31000 & Rs.36100 price of the 3G iPhone in India, however the 3G iPhones selling in India are locked either to Vodafone or Bharti Airtel. Aren't Indians being unfairly treated by these companies that despite paying similar amount as their counterparts in Hong Kong, they are getting locked 3G iPhones instead of unlocked ones ? question

HTC Touch HD Leaks, another iPhone rival

Yesterday after the leaking of the HTC Opal, another phone from HTC has leaked. This time it's the HTC Touch HD. The Touch HD is an iPhone rival, like the Blackberry Thunder/Storm, and boasts a 3.5 inch WVGA Touch Screen. It's also supposed to be sporting GPS, Wi-Fi, 3G, HSDPA.

The OS of choice is Windows Mobile 6.1 with Touch Flo 3D on top of it. The power to run all this comes from a 528Mhz CPU courtesy of the Qualcomm 7201A platform. There are also 512MB flash memory and 256MB of RAM. HTC Touch HD measures 115 x 62.8 x 12mm (which is just about the iPhone 3G with 115.5 x 62.1 x 12.3mm). There's also a 5 Mega Pixel Camera, though without flash, compared to the paltry 2 Mega Pixel one of the iPhone.

HTC seems to ba making a lot of progress lately in producing good Touch Screen Phones like the Touch Diamond & this is just the icing on the cake with the first HTC phone to support 5 Mega Pixel Camera. However it's late to the party with Samsung i900 Omnia already crowned as the first Windows Mobile Real Camera Phone. The HTC Touch HD looks a lot like the Blackberry Thunder/Storm & will be challenging for the Top Spot among Touch Screen Phones along with the Samsung i900 Omnia, Blackberry Thunder/Storm, 3G iPhone & the LG KC 910. May the best Touch Screen Phone win !!

Apple 3G iPhone to land in India on 22 August for $700

Apple iPhone is finally coming to India. Airtel & Vodafone will be bringing the handset to India just before the festival season. But better start cutting down on other expenditures if you plan to buy it. The 3G iPhone will cost approximately $700 for the 8GB iPhone 3G or about $825 for the 16GB iPhone 3G.

This is the full price of iPhone as contracts are still not popular in India, so you'll get the unlocked version. Without any carrier subsidies, Vodafone and Airtel will be requiring their customers to pony up Rs 31,000 and Rs 36,100, respectively, for the 8GB and 16GB iPhone 3G handset. That's still a very high price considering there are better other alternatives like N82 & N95.

India still lacks a 3G Network so you'll be left with just EDGE speeds at best with your new 3G iPhone if you buy one. Even though quite a few Handsets exist in India which are 3G capable, they can't be used in 3G Mode. Hope to see it changed when Indian Networks launch their 3G Network. The iPhone 3G will launch in India on August 22 through Vodafone.

Garmin nüvifone Delayed, 3G iPhone breathes easy

Garmin nüvifone which was considered as a rival to the 3G iPhone has been delayed till mid 2009. This leaves lot of room for RIM to tweak the 9500 Thunder to perfection.

"The nuvifone will not be available in fourth quarter as previously announced," said the company in an official statement. "While we had hoped to have carrier launches in the fourth quarter, we have found that meeting some of the carrier specific requirements will take longer than anticipated. We remain pleased with carrier interest in the device and are working toward making necessary design changes to meet their requirements. We anticipate launching the product during the first half of 2009."

Looks like iPhone 3G & Apple can breathe easy & by then maybe we will seeing a 3rd Gen. iPhone.

Nokia 5800 leakes again, UI is still unrefined

The Nokia 5800 has leaked again, but this time it's showing it's UI also. For those who forgot the 5800 is Nokia's answer to the 3G iPhone. It's a Touch Screen Based Smartphone running on S60 5th Edition having a 3.2 inch screen with a resolution of 640 x 360. It also has a 3.5 mm jack, Wi-Fi, GPS & a 3.2mp Auto Focus Cam with Carl Zeiss Optics.

The positioning of the phone as an iPhone beater can be seen from it's branding as a Xpress Music Phone. It might also come with Nokia's Comes with Music Service, which allows unlimited music downloads for 1 year. The Tube also has a newly developed battery called the BL-5J and it will also support the TV-out which the iPhone currently does not. If Nokia markets & positions this correctly, they might have a best seller in their hands but they need to refine the UI of the phone as it will get easily beaten by the iPhone's UI.

RIM Blackberry Thunder Leaks Again, Haptics are visible

The RIM Blackberry Thunder's pics have leaked again. This shows a the lax security setup at RIM. Well we are not complaining as it enables us to see the Haptics enabled Touch Screen of the Thunder. There are speculations that the the Thunder will be renamed as Storm , looks like RIM seems to be sticking with nature on this one.

Talking about the Thunder, it features a large iPhonic Touch Screen complete with Sure Type & QWERTY keypads. The buttons formations give away the Haptics of the Tunder. It's believed to be a slim device to take on the iPhone in not just features but size & dimensions also.

What's so great about the True Haptics in the Thunder is the response got after pressing a button is from the area which was actually pressed unlike the Pseudo Haptics in today's phones where the whole phone vibrates to acknowledge a press. The Thunder will also feature an audible clickety sound to enhance the vibrations.

The 3G less Bold called the 'Javelin' was also leaked & it's confirmed to have GPS, Wi-fi, 3.2 mp cam & 4.6 OS. It will also feature the 480 x 320 screen of the Bold.

Apple 3G iPhone announced

Steve Jobs today announced the 3G iPhone after days & days of media frenzy, rumors & leaks. The 3G iPhone has 3G (obviously) & GPS in it. Even with the 3G, the battery times reported are really amazing for the Phone. The 3G iPhone is rated at 300 hours of standby time. 2G talk time is up to 10 hours (it's 8 hours with the first gen iPhone), while 3G talk time is 5 hours. It will be able to allow 5-6 hours of 3G browsing, 7 hours of video playback and 24 hours of audio playback. mrgreen

The form-factor is mostly the same. Same 3.5-inch multi-touch screen, same button-less face, minimalist design - but with a few changes. There are going to be some incredible applications and games for the iPhone available through the AppStore - and it looks like free or $9.99 is going to be the pricing structure. At least we won't have to worry about which application is going to be cheaper than another.

And, the iPhone 3G will launch in 20 countries worldwide on July 11 for $199. Talk about affordable - there won't be any of those "it's too expensive" arguments against the iPhone 3G floating around that were seen last year with the original iPhone's launch. tepuktangan

Let's recap the specs a bit.
It's got Quadband support, Triband 3G support, Wifi, GPS, Bluetooth 2.0, 8GB & 16GB Flash Storage, normal headphone jack, same 3.5 inch 16 million color screen, same 2mp camera.

The new features of the 3G iPhone (apart from 3G & GPS) are :

Contact Search

Bulk Deleting

Saving Images

Scientific Calculator

Parental Contols

Support for Various Languages

There will be a Black & a special White Version
