Get push feature for your gmail in iphone

Hi Friends,

As you all must be aware that the latest firmware of iPhone has introduced the feature of push mail. But sadly for Gmail its not fully push, its a fetch system, which checks for your mail ever 15 mins or 30 mins or more.

The real push is only for Apple's paid service mobile me, MS Exchange and yahoo mail.

So I came across an idea to get Gmail as push in iPhone via yahoo. This may be useful to many Gmail users.

Its a very simple process.

Step 1:
Create a new ymail account at yahoo (If you have a yahoo account then u can use that & combine the yahoo & Gmail into 1)

Step 2:
Login in your Gmail & go to settings....and then select the option of filters....and then finally click on "Create New Filter".
Then enter your Gmail email address in the to section like shown in the image below.

Login to Gmail & enter your email ID

Click on Next Step

Select the option of "Mark as read" to avoid confusion in your Gmail account. (If you don't select that, then all the mails forwarded to ymail> will be shown as unread in Gmail)

Then enter your "ymail" email address in forward it to column as shown in the picture below.

Enter your ymail id in forwarding column

Click on Create Filter to finish the process.

Now all the mails sent to your Gmail will be forwarded to ymail automatically.

Step 3:
In your iPhone, delete or deactivate your Gmail mail setting. (This is done to avoid duplication of emails in your phone)

Step 4:
Create a new mail account of yahoo (your new ymail address which you just made).
And in settings of iPhone don't forget to keep the push on for yahoo.

That's it guys & gals..........you will now get all your Gmail mails pushed immediately via free yahoo.............!! Isn't that awesome? wink

The only minus point in this system is, you cant edit the outgoing smtp & use the Gmail for sending mails. So when you send email from your iPhone, it will go via yahoo. But you can always add a signature in settings and mention your Gmail address.

I hope this would be useful to the many iPhone + Gmail users who wanted free push mail. And one more important thing........with the new iPhone firmware 2.1, apple seems to have messed up the push feature altogether....and when the phone is idle, it does not work. It works only when the phone is in use. Even the fetch of Gmail is not working in idle mode. But apple has recognised this bug & is working upon it and will correct it soon in a future firmware.

However the users with firmware 2.0, 2.0.1, 2.0.2 should be able to get push emails even in idle mode.
